Frequently Asked Questions

Age requirement to apply?

18+

Location?

Anywhere, as the fair is completely virtual. However organizers are based in the US and all events will be in PST

I’m a disability justice bookstore, but not craft or zine oriented. Would I be eligible to vend?

Unfortunately, we don’t accept secondhand or vintage sellers, just handmade goods.

I’m part of a collective that has disabled artists as part of our group, but not all of us are disabled. Are we eligible to vend?

We assess this type of collective on a case by case basis, but we do require that the art being sold during the Fair, and the artists who are represented/highlighted in your collective are disabled ONLY. We do not host non-disabled (pre-disabled) vendors.

I sell art on behalf of other people, and some of those people are disabled. Would I be eligible to vend?

We assess this type of vending structure on a case by case basis, but, at minimum, we require that only art/crafts/items made by disabled people are listed, sold, and represented during the Fair. We do not host non-disabled (pre-disabled) vendors.

How do I apply to the fair?

The applications for the 2024 fair have closed. You can apply for next year’s fair when we open applications again. The best way to find out about the applications opening is to follow us on instagram @sadzcf

If I apply and later realize that I won’t be able to vend or participate, is that okay?

Of course! We understand that we are all sick and disabled, and things come up suddenly all the time. We only ask that you inform us as soon as possible that you may have to withdraw your participation from any part of the Fair. The more communication with us, the easier it is!

How is the fair run? Are you a non-profit?

We are not a registered non-profit, but we are an all volunteer grassroots organization run by queer disabled people. Our organizers do not get paid, and often use their own money to help fund the Fair. We run primarily on donations, merch sales, and funds from the organizers. Donations help fund things like our website and ASL interpreters for our live events.

Do I have to be in the USA to apply?
Nope! You can be based anywhere in the world and we’ve had vendors from all over the world sell at the fair.

Do you take a commission/cut from the vendors?

We take no commission from the vendors. Vendors can pay a table fee if they choose, but it is not required to be a vendor. All sales go directly to the artists via whatever payment app they choose. The SAD Fair does not make money on things the vendors sell.

Do I have to pay to attend?

Nope! The fair is free to attend. We do, however, really love getting donations as it helps us keep the fair running every year. See our Donate/Sponsor Us pages to learn more.

Are all the vendors disabled?
Vendors are asked upon applying if they identify as sick, disabled, neurodivergent, MAD etc, and only those who answer yes are eligible. The SAD Fair is here to showcase the works of a variety of disabled, sick, neurodivergent, MAD etc people around the world.

Is this a LGBTQ+ inclusive space?
Yes! Many of our organizers are queer and trans and we have a safer spaces policy to try to ensure this is a welcoming space for the queer community. Learn more at https://tr.ee/2tw1Wa5MMN

Will there be ASL interpreters at the live events?

, for the 2024 Fair we will have ASL interpreters at all of the live events.
